What are Athlete ID Sessions

Sometimes called Open Gyms, athlete ID sessions allow coaches to meet and assess athletes interested in being a part of our competitive team program. Many players are not familiar to the coaching staff so it is important to give all athletes the opportunity to have a fair and open opportunity to showcase their talent. Open gyms also allow athletes who are considering our club to meet the coaching staff, ask questions about the club or competitive program, and meet potential teammates.

Can I get a signing offer by attending an Open Gym? 

Athletes who played for Durham Rebels last season are eligible to get a re-signing offer between June 1-21. Not all athletes will get a re-signing offer in June but will remain eligible to be considered for open spots until team rosters are complete. Any athlete who would like to be considered for a spot on one of our 2024/25 competitive teams should attend all of the the open gym sessions.

If a coach is interested in an athlete who did not play for Rebels last season, the coach will speak with the athlete and parent to discuss their interest but will not be able to invite an athlete to join a team until July 1 when the Open Commitment period begins.

There is one-time registration fee that covers all open gyms for the athlete’s age division, regardless of how many sessions an athlete attends. Depending on the number of athletes in a division, cuts may take place before the final tryout.
