Congratulations to Durham Rebels Smash who earned silver in the MYBV invitational in Aurora this past Saturday. Smash had a great tournament that had them competing with some of the province’s top-ranked 13U teams. In the gold medal final Smash enjoyed an exciting competition against Leaside Red that went to a 15-13 third set with Leaside prevailing. These two teams are going to push one another to great levels this season – congrats to all teams who displayed amazing volleyball skills and stellar sportsmanship this weekend! Let’s go, Rebels! Smash is coached by Scott Senft and Rob Dyment.

Introducing Cindy Ross, Head Coach, 15UG-2: After playing club volleyball for the Ganaraska Wolves, Cindy played OCAA volleyball for the Humber College women’s team. During her time at Humber, Cindy helped the Hawks win their first-ever OCAA provincial gold and was named MVP that season. Upon graduation she went on to Durham College where she continued to play post-secondary volleyball. Cindy was (and continues to be) an exceptional athlete earning Rookie of the Year during her time at both Humber and Durham. She was second in the OCAA for scoring and selected to the All-Star team during her time at each school. Cindy is also the recipient of the Good Sportsmanship Award and a CCAA Academic All-Canadian.
Cindy has had the good fortune of being coached by some OCAA legends including Dave Hood and Chris Wilkins at Humber and the late Stan Marchut at Durham College. Each has instilled their love of the game and commitment to excellence in Cindy as both a player and a coach.
Cindy has a passion for community service and worked as a lifeguard in her earlier days before studying policing, and volunteering with the police K9 Unit. She now works as an Industrial Fire Fighter with OPG and is mom to two very athletic teenagers. This is Cindy’s second year as a coach with our Club and she is excited to get into the gym with our athletes to help them reach their potential both on and off the court.
If you’d like to meet Cindy and the rest of our 15U Head coaches (1 more HC to be announced), be sure to sign up for our Get Prepped for Rep! warm-up clinics starting next week.
