Durham Rebels Inferno competed in the 15U Provincial Cup at Uxbridge Secondary School on November 3. Not only was this the first OVA tournament of the season for the team, it marked the first-ever OVA tournament for several Inferno players who are new to the competitive volleyball scene. Coaches Cris and Lisa have brought this team a long way in such a short time and the results were evident. Inferno went undefeated in morning pool play and crossovers and it wasn’t until their semi final match against Storm Cyclones that Inferno experienced some push back that sent them to the bronze medal competition. Inferno wouldn’t take the bronze medal match against Markham Revolution too easily either, but perseverance and a never-give-up attitude meant they would prevail in three back and forth sets to win the bronze. Congratulations girls and coaches and good luck at the 16U Provincial Cup on November 24.
Durham Rebels joined forces with the Durham Lords volleyball teams and Invado Volleyball to support the Lords at their home opener on October 27. The Lords took advantage of the large crowd to raise funds for its Think Pink weekend that will support a student-athlete whose family is currently dealing with the recent diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer. It was a fun evening watching the Lords take on the Ottawa’s Algonquin Thunder. Players from our 12U Blockade and 12U Crush teams had the honour of joining the women’s team on court during the National Anthem while also getting to toss prizes into the crowd. Thanks to all those who supported our Rebels Club Night and donated to this cause that raised over $1600 – another great sign that our Durham volleyball community is amazing!
