art_2011_u18_humber += "The 18U girls participated in the pre season Humber Volleyball Classic hosted by the Humber Hawks Women's Volleyball Team this past weekend (October 23-24, 2010).";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;The day outside was cold, wet and dark but that was not going to dampen the day for the 18's.";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;The newly formed team of NINE, affectionately nicknamed &quot;Ninestrong&quot; took the court for the first time in competition with much enthusiasm but unfortunately within minutes became &quot;minus one&quot; as they lost one player, Emily Nicholishen, after she rolled her ankle.";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;Now the team would be &quot;Eight plus EM&quot; for the day.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_humber += "<u>MATCH ONE</u><br />Match one would be against the Mavericks from Ottawa.";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;This first match started slow, with the girls playing tentatively causing them to have to repeatedly come from behind as a result of a number of unforced errors.";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;In the end however the 18Õs maintained their composure and took the match in two straight sets 25-21 and 25-22.";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;Not a textbook display of volleyball but still a mark in the win column.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_humber += "<u>MATCH TWO</u><br />This match would be against the Interclub team out of Toronto.";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;This match up was somewhat one sided as the bigger more dominant DRVC girls quickly took control of the game winning the match in two straight sets 25-12 and 25-16.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_humber += "<u>MATCH THREE</u><br />Next up was the match against the Impact team from Georgetown.";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;This match, similar to the previous match saw DRVC jump out to an early lead and they never looked back winning the match 25-11 and 25-16.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_humber += "<u>SEMI FINALS</u><br />This game would be against the Storm team out of Aurora. Caught off guard after having cruised through the morning DRVC dropped the first set 23-25.";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;Taking the court much more focused during the second set DRVC executed plays to completion and committed very few errors to take set two 25-15 forcing a 3rd set for the first time all day.";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;Set three would see a back and forth game with team DRVC finishing out the match for a 15-12 win.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_humber += "<u>GOLD MEDAL MATCH</u><br />The final match up of the day would be against the younger talented handpicked Defensa team from Burlington.";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;Set one was DRVC from start to finish with a final score of 25-20.";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;Set two however was a different story.&nbsp;&nbsp;Set two caught the DRVC team &quot;back on their heels&quot;, resulting in numerous unforced errors and causing the team to repeatedly have to play &quot;catch up&quot; throughout the second set.";
art_2011_u18_humber += "&nbsp;&nbsp;To the teams credit they did not falter, remaining strong and resilient. Ultimately the older, more experienced DRVC team prevailed to take the match in two straight sets with a 26-24 win resulting in the first 18U GOLD of the 2010 season.<br /><br />Great job DRVC!";

art_2011_u18_provcup += "The 18U team played in the OVA's Provincial Cup season opener held at Bill Crothers Secondary School in Markham this past weekend.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "&nbsp;&nbsp;You could feel the overwhelming sense of anticipation and excitement as teams filed into the school early Saturday morning for what would be, for many of the girls, the start of their last club season.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  Ironically, as much as the day marked the start of the end for many it also marked the beginning for many others.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  One only needed to look around at the various teams to see which players landed on what team for their swan's song.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  The DRVC 18U team was one such team as this newly formed team was a combination of 6 players from last year's DRVC 17U team and 3 players from the provincial winning Element 17U team.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  Since it's inception there had been speculation about this team and many eagerly waited to see what this team would bring to the court.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  Under the direct supervision of Head Coach Gerald Brunt and assistants Kent Howe, Mike Hubicki and Andy Bonter the team did not disappoint.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "<u>POOL PLAY</u><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "The first match for the team would be against the Elites from Barrie Ontario.Ê DRVC dominated action the entire match winning decisively 25-8 and 25-14.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "The next match was a surprise as the 18's faced a very athletic and talented 17U team from Kitchener Waterloo, the Predators, coached by Paul Pavan.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  Set one caught the 18's completely off guard as the 17U's came out swinging taking an early lead and not surrendering it at all the entire first set winning 20-25.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  After a pep talk from Coach Brunt the 18U team returned to the court with much more focus and determination and quite handily took set two 25-12.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  Set three was battle as both teams, having tasted victory, were not about to give up and this match without a fight as the winner would get a bye to the quarters.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  The 18's unable to build any kind of momentum after the second set still somehow managed to push through the third set to win the match 15 -12.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  Congratulations to the 17U Predators who went on to win the Bronze Medal.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "<u>PLAYOFFS</u><br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "Quarter Finals<br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "The quarter finals had the 18's taking on the STORM from Aurora.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  This would be a rematch of sorts as these two teams met in pre-season play at the Humber Classic where the match was won by DRVC in 3 sets";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  This match however was not about to be a repeat performance as DRVC was the better team on this day taking the match in two straight sets 25-7 and 25-13.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "Semi Finals<br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "Next up on the docket was the 18U Predators team from Kitchener, Waterloo.Ê The 18's took the court with confidence and swept the match in two straight sets 25-11 and 25-15.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "<u>GOLD MEDAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME</u><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "As predicted by most at the start of the day the two teams battling it out for GOLD would be DRVC and DEFENSA.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "This highly anticipated match was by far the best of the day with two very talented teams executing picture perfect plays that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  Set one was back and forth point for point up until about 8 when Defensa broke through and strung together some massive attacks to take a huge lead.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  At one point the 18's were down 12-22, and Defensa not about to relinquish their lead took the first set 17-25.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  After a quick pep talk DRVC took the court for set two with one goal in mind... to WIN set two to keep their goal of GOLD in the first tournament alive.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  Set two was a spectator's delight as both teams made huge hits, amazing digs and undeniable displays of pure heart and determination.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  This was a battle ground and neither team was prepared to go down without a fight.  Set two was won by DRVC 25-20.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  As it should be, the winner of this tournament would be decided by a third and final set.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  Set three was about more than just talent.  It was about heart and mental toughness and who could and would push through when it counted most.";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  The final set went point for point, back and forth.  DRVC was down at the switch 6-8.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "  As the match continued, Defensa increased their lead to 6-11, but DRVC managed to pull together two large string of points to ultimately take the third set 15-12 and claim the GOLD!!!!!!!<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_provcup += "Congratulations &quot;NINESTRONG&quot;.  Indeed today you were nine strong as each and everyone of you stepped up when you needed to and contributed to this gold medal win.";

art2011_u18_mcgregor += "<span class='orng'>Pool Play</span><br /><br />";
art2011_u18_mcgregor += "First up on the docket was a match against the 18U Durham Attack Black Team out of Oshawa.";
art2011_u18_mcgregor += "  DRVC took the court eager and ready to start the competition despite the blistering cold weather outside.";
art2011_u18_mcgregor += "  DRVC took an early lead and did not relinquish it the entire match winning in two straight sets with scores of 25-11 and 25-19.<br /><br />";
art2011_u18_mcgregor += "The second match of the day was against the Ottawa Fusion.";
art2011_u18_mcgregor += "  This match, similar to the first, had team DRVC leading from start to finish with straight set wins of 25-18 and 25-20 and claiming 1st place in their pool, thereby earning them a bye to the quarter finals.";

art2011_u18_mcgregor += "Quarter final play was against the South County Bandits from Windsor, a team that DRVC had not yet faced this year.";

art2011_u18_mcgregor += "  The team was able to find their rhythm and won the match 25-17 and 25-20.";

art2011_u18_mcgregor += "The semi finals were against the Forest City 18U Green Team, a very talented defensive team that should not be taken lightly, as this team is one of the scrappiest &quot;never say die teams&quot; in the OVA.";

art2011_u18_mcgregor += "  Team DRVC took the match decisively in two straight sets 25-17 and 25-14.";

art2011_u18_mcgregor += "Once again the 18U Premier Champions would be decided by a match up between DRVC and Defensa, two of the most dominant teams in the OVA.";
art2011_u18_mcgregor += "  The gym was packed with spectators eager to see who would come out ranked #1 on this day.";
art2011_u18_mcgregor += "  One could sense the determination, on both sides of the net, as the teams took the floor to decide who would be victorious on this day.<br /><br />";
art2011_u18_mcgregor += "  Set 1 went back and forth with both teams battling for every single point keeping the score within 2 until DRVC hit 20 and went on a run scoring 4 straight points to win set one 25-21.<br /><br />";
art2011_u18_mcgregor += "  Having finished set one with a win team DRVC took the court with confidence in set 2 and very quickly and aggressively dominated play leading, at one point, with a score of 21-13.";
art2011_u18_mcgregor += "  Sensing a win DRVC lost focus and made a few uncharacteristic unforced errors which ignited the Defensa team who were able to rally back with some huge hits, but on this day it was not to be and DRVC took set two 25-22 to win the match in two straight sets remaining undefeated with a 10-0 record on the day.";

art2011_u18_bugarski += "The 18U team travelled to Brock University this past weekend to play not only in the final 2011 OVA 18U tournament of the year,";
art2011_u18_bugarski += " but also in what will be the last regular indoor OVA tournament that all the girls will ever play in.<br /><br />";
art2011_u18_bugarski += "This tournament would be &quot;different&quot; than all the other OVA Premier Tournaments this year with the challenge for the day being to";
art2011_u18_bugarski += "  &quot;stay focused&quot; (this may sound like an easy task but believe me it was much harder than it sounds).";
art2011_u18_bugarski += "  Brock University is a beautiful venue with 4 courts and it is by far one of the best venues the OVA has ever used.<br /><br />";
art2011_u18_bugarski += "On this day however, despite there being 4 courts available for play, the time between the pools varied so much that the DRVC team found themselves";
art2011_u18_bugarski += "  repeatedly sitting around waiting for hours to play their next match.";
art2011_u18_bugarski += "  The silver lining for the team was that the DRVC parents did such an incredible job of making the most delicious food possible that";
art2011_u18_bugarski += "  the girls were able to take their time to sample and savour the food that the parents so graciously provided.";
art2011_u18_bugarski += "  THANK YOU PARENTS again for an outstanding job and thank you again for your unwavering support for the team.<br /><br />";
art2011_u18_bugarski += "The 18's went undefeated on the day with a 10-0 record not dropping a single set.";

art_2011_u18_outtahand += "The 18U girls team played in the OUTTAHAND Women's Elite Series Tournament held at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus this weekend [December 4, 2010].";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "  This is the 2nd such tournament the girls have played in, finishing 5th in the first.";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "  Competition in these tournaments is against some of strongest women volleyball players to ever come out of Ontario, and when I say they are good, that is probably understating it.";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "  These women are smart, athletic and very talented.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "The 18's finished first in their pool, which was a great start to the day considering 3 out of 4 of the teams made it into the top 8 for playoffs.";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "  In the quarters the team matched up against the very experienced Polaris team who really gave the 18's a challenge; however in the end the 18's were able to pull out a victory.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "The semis had the 18's taking on the talented and very strong ICE team that they had defeated earlier in pool play in two straight sets.";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "  ICE, last year's reigning champions, are a very dominant team in all aspects of their game and the 18's knew that this team was out to avenge their loss from earlier in the day, and they had added a middle to their line-up who in our estimation was or should be listed as a dangerous weapon with the speed of her middle hits.";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "  This game was a very fast and intense game from the first to the last serve with the 18's coming out on top for a second time in two straight sets.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "Off to the GOLD MEDAL match against HEAT, another exceptionally talented group of women athletes.";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "  The 18's jumped out to a quick lead but quickly HEAT adjusted and not only took the lead but maintained it for the remainder of the set to win set one.";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "  After a team huddle the 18's came out swinging and won set 2.";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "  The winner would be determined by third set and it was a battle back and forth throughout but in the end the 18's succumbed to the more experienced HEAT team.";
art_2011_u18_outtahand += "  Congratulations HEAT we are coming to get you next time :)<br /><br />";

art_2011_u18_niagaracanam += "The 18U's travelled to Buffalo this past weekend [Jnauary 15, 2011] to play in the Niagara Frontier Can-Am Invitational Tournament.";
art_2011_u18_niagaracanam += "  The team played amazingly well all weekend losing only 2 matches overall to ONE team, the 18U1 Mavericks from Ohio, the eventual GOLD medal winners.<br /><br />";
art_2011_u18_niagaracanam += "  The 18's first lost to the Mavericks in pool play and then again in the semi's, otherwise they were undefeated.";

art2011_u18_prescup += "The 18U DRVC team travelled to Dayton Ohio this past weekend [February 19th] to play in the President's Day Cup held at the Dayton Convention Center.<br /><br />";
art2011_u18_prescup += "Competition at the tournament, in the National Division, was very tough from the first served ball of the first set until the last served ball of the championship game.<br /><br />";
art2011_u18_prescup += "The 18's held their own in every match they played finishing out the weekend a respectable 7th out of 30 teams, in the highest bracket GOLD DIVISION.<br /><br />";
art2011_u18_prescup += "Ironically two of the teams the girls lost to during the weekend (in 3rd sets with close scores of 12-15) played in the GOLD medal match.";
art2011_u18_prescup += "The only other Canadian team in this division was Defensa out of Burlington who succumbed to the DRVC 18's in the first game Sunday morning in two straight sets of 25-20 & 25-14.<br /><br />";
