But our biggest obstacle is ourselves as the girls are unable to rally for a victory and end up losing 19-25 and 20-25. The girls are devastated but in typical DRVC fashion they pull themselves together to face their final opponents of the tournament…….

";art_14u_14uprovincials += "…..Barrie Elites Black! 14U has already proven four times now that they are the stronger team and they continue the trend with a fifth win over Barrie with scores of 25-19 and 25-20.

";art_14u_14uprovincials += "The girls hold their heads up high earning themselves a solid 9th place finish out of 65 teams. We have already said good-bye to Taylor B, whom we all miss. There were twenty-eight 14U girls’ teams participating and, as luck would have it, several of the teams (almost ½ actually) were teams the girls faced during the course of their regular season!

";art_14u_14unationals += "The 14U and 16U girls’ teams were in the late wave, so the girls faced their first opponents of the tournament at 3:00 on Friday afternoon. 14U had faced Oakville Thunder Blue in Provincials and had beaten them so facing Oakville Thunder White would prove no problem and the girls won both sets: 25-6 and 25-18.

";art_14u_14unationals += "It was during their next match that the girls began to execute the new plays they had learned and caused quite a commotion. Before we knew it teams were taking pictures and filming our girls (we put a stop to that!) and everyone was talking about them. One parent overheard the comment “this team could win the whole thing” Even the 16U teams were taking notice. The girls were playing a Quebec team Drakkar St. Felix and took both sets easily with scores of 25-13 and 25-6.

";art_14u_14unationals += "14U next faces the New Brunswick Provincial Champs, Extreme Max. The cheering from Extreme Max was, well, extreme to say the least. My ears are still ringing from the whistler! But their cheering did nothing to stop the girls. DRVC beats the New Brunswick Provincial Champions 25-14 and 25-21 to finish day one undefeated and in first place in our pool.

";art_14u_14unationals += "Day two, Saturday, and we are still late wave with our first game at 3:00 once again. We have travelled over 7 hours to Quebec and now we are facing our own 13U team! The girls are still running their plays very well and confusing the heck out of the 13U team (a trend we noticed yesterday and one that would continue all weekend). 14U takes the first game 25-12. Although 13U keeps battling, 14U takes the second game as well 25-21.

";art_14u_14unationals += "The second match of the day has us facing yet another Provincial Championship team, this time from Quebec. Dragons du College Ste-Anne has a very tall middle but honestly little else except a few hard servers. Erin makes quick work of the middle and the rest of the team follows suit. In the end it is DRVC 25-20 and 25-17.

";art_14u_14unationals += "Our last match of the day finds us in the bigger gym again. We are facing Samurai 14UF from Quebec. Officiating is just awful all weekend but especially bad this game with both teams not being called on obvious faults. When the head referees wander over for a meeting, the officiating becomes much tighter. DRVC takes both sets once again with scores of 25-8 and 25-17.

";art_14u_14unationals += "Day two re pool ends and the girls are still in first place in their pool, having gone undefeated for 12 straight sets.

";art_14u_14unationals += "Day three begins a little earlier for the girls with their first game at 11:15 am. The girls are pumped…only three games stand between them and the National Championship East Banner. They come out swinging against Celtique PSNM from Quebec and take the first game quickly 25-9. Game two sees a different, stronger line up from the Quebec team. Our girls play hard but fall for their first loss of the weekend, 20-25. The tiebreaker begins and our girls take and early lead. Its 8-5 at the switch. The noise and heat are getting to all the players. The coach from the Quebec team plays some game delaying tactics. A few VERY bad calls against us allow the Celtique’s to take the lead. Jessie serves us to 14-13. The girls are playing their hearts out but today the Quebec team takes the win 16-14.

";art_14u_14unationals += "The final seeding is tied for 5th but since the girls are the only team to go undefeated in 13 straight sets, 5th place should be solely theirs.

";art_14u_14unationals += "For a team that came into this tournament with no expectations the result is phenomenal. In the three weeks since Ontario Championships the team has improved 100% and they were pretty darn good to begin with!

";art_14u_14unationals += "So ends our 2009/2010 season: 3 golds, 1 silver, 1 bronze (at 15U), 9th in tier one in the Province and 5th in tier one in Nationals East. What a great year and things will only go up from here!

";art_14u_14unationals += "Thanks to coaches Mitch and Sean for doing such a great job with the girls, even if Mitch still needs to stop calling balls “out”!!!!! You guys were such a positive influence on the girls and were their father figures on the court. None of this would have been possible with your support, expertise, time and patience…not to mention your fashion sense (read orange socks!).

";art_14u_14unationals += "Thanks to all the parents who brought their daughters to practice twice a week, every week for the entire season and made sure they had all their equipment (though sometimes drove back home to get what their daughter swore was in her backpack!). Thanks for driving to Bowmanville about 1,000 times this season and for not complaining too much when we had to drive to Ottawa to play in a 15U zone tournament the very week winter decided to return! Most of all, thanks for cheering the girls on through the good games and consoling them after the not so good games. Plus the food wasn’t bad either!

";art_14u_14unationals += "And last but so definitely not least….thanks to our girls. From the first practice we knew we had something special. Mitch and Sean could see past the nerves and shyness about playing with new teammates and saw the diamonds in the rough. And oh how you all began to shine! You moved up each and every tournament you played in. You learned how to play as a team both on and off the court. You stunned us all with your ability to execute new and exciting plays with only 5 practices behind you. You showed everyone that having fun is more important, that its no fun to win unless you all have a part in it and that no one person wins or loses a game on their own…there is no “I” in team. We are proud to say we are the parents of DRVC 14U.

";art_14u_14unationals += "So off to enjoy your summer. Some of you will play beach, some go to camps but you will all return in September as a much better player and person for having been involved with this team.
<br /?";art_14u_14unationals += "One point at a time and chick chick boom…….RELOAD!!!!!!!

";
