"; article13UExhibitionGames += "Since the start of the OVA tournaments’ is so late this year, our girls had a chance to play a few exhibition games and took full advantage.
"; article13UExhibitionGames += "We first faced the Diamonds 14U. When the Diamonds walked in our girls seemed so small….the Diamonds were a tall team! But you know the old adage…”the bigger they are the harder they fall”! Our 13U girls took 3 of the 4 games and took them easily. What a great start!
"; article13UExhibitionGames += "Our next exhibition game was against our own 14U Blue team. Our girls did very well, splitting the games and gaining lots of confidence!
"; article13UExhibitionGames += "Next we played our own 13U Blue team. It was a spirited set of games, and it was by no means easy, but in the end, we were able to defeat our clubmates in every game. We were all winners, however, for playing well and testing our skills in practice before the tournaments started.
"; article13UExhibitionGames += "Our last exhibition game was against Durham Attack Black 13U. When Attack walked in they look intimidating….they had uniforms, their coaches had uniforms, their uniforms had uniforms, and there were a lot of them!!! Since our uniforms had not been delivered yet we looked like the poor relations! Guess looks aren’t everything as we took 3 of the 5 games we played. The scores were 25-12, 18-25, 25-8, 25-16 and 12-15.

"; article13UTB16NOV += "On November 16, the 13U team decided to do a little team building away from the volleyball court. The destination was Leisure Lanes in Oshawa for a little 10 pin bowling. The girls were joined by their families, and in all 26 people joined in the festivities.
"; article13UTB16NOV += "It would be safe to say that the professional bowling leagues don't have much to worry from this group, but from the smiles that showed up, it’s pretty clear that everyone had a good time. It was a great chance to get out and have some fun away from the court, prior to the start of what is sure to be a very busy season!

13U Finishes 2nd at Provincial Cup

"; article13UProvCup_13U += "Our three 13U teams participated in their first tournament, the Provincial Cup, at Bowmanville High School on Saturday December 13th.
"; article13UProvCup_13U += "The 13U girls first game of the day was bright and early at 9:00 against the Storm Blizzard who were ranked 9th. Both Erin and Sydney served for the full 5 points in game one and we took it easily with a score of 25-10. The girls continued to play extremely well. With a nice tip from Jessie, we took the second game 25-14.
"; article13UProvCup_13U += "We played again right away facing the Maverick Rattlers who were ranked 10th. In the first game Briar served for the full 5 points, as did Sydney once again and we took the game 25-18. In the second game Brianne and Christine served the full 5 and Christine had 3 aces! The final was 25-17.
"; article13UProvCup_13U += "We had a one game break and the girls were able to fuel up on some fruit and granola bars then it was on to face Attack Red. They were our most evenly matched team, being ranked 4th to our 3rd. In the first game it was Maddy who served for the full 5 points while Kristen was great at placing balls in the holes in the court and Sabrina (despite having just come off a bad shoulder injury) made a fantastic kill. Sounds good on paper but Attack was playing better. At one point we were down 11-20 but battled back. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough and Attack took the first game 22-25. The girls played better the next set and with Christine making 5 points on her serve and Sydney making two great blocks we turned the tables on Attack and took the second game 25-20. We were on to our first tiebreaker of the day. Sydney was blocking everything that came over the net, Briar’s serving was red hot, Sabrina had a couple of nice tips and Erin hit one ball that seemed to weave through the rafters without touching anything but unfortunately landed just outside the line…and the win was ours at 15-10.

"; article13UProvCup_13U += "In re pool we played the first game and faced the Titans Ice. Things just seemed to fall apart for us and we lost both games 22-25 and 24-26.
"; article13UProvCup_13U += "Afterwards we started a 3 game break…..far, far too long; and at the end we met our club mates, DRVC 13U Blue.
"; article13UProvCup_13U += "We started off on a bad foot when Sabrina hurt her shoulder while serving and had to leave the game. Blue had really improved since the last time we faced them and even Jessie’s great plays at the net didn’t help us. They outplayed our girls and took the first game 22-25. In the second game our gals came out fighting! They were calling each and every ball…something they had not been doing much since the first game…and it paid off when we took the second game in a reverse score of 25-22! The talking continued through the tiebreaker and our girls took the third game with a score of 15-10. It was déjŕ vu…as the 14U teams had faced each other the week before in the final of their Provincial Cup with the same outcome! Even though there are no medals awarded in the first tournament, our DRVC 13U girls are gold and silver. A nice way to head into Christmas!

13U takes Silver at the 13U McGregor Cup!

"; article13UMcGregCup_13U += "On January 24th we headed to Brighton to play in the McGregor Cup. The girls had finished 2nd in the Provincial Cup in December but this was our first medal tournament.
"; article13UMcGregCup_13U += "We began pool play with a win against the Mavericks with scores of 25-20 and 25-15. The girls were playing well with Sydney serving for 5 points, Christine setting beautifully and Maddy hustling all over the court.
"; article13UMcGregCup_13U += "Our next match was against Storm Ice. Despite some nice kills by Jessie the girls lost the first game 16-25. With both Christine and Sabrina serving for 5 points each and Brianne playing great at the net despite having hurt her back earlier we took the next two matches 25-19 and 15-7.
"; article13UMcGregCup_13U += "The girls face DRVC Blue next. Our girls played hard but Blue played better and they took the first game 24-26. We came back with Kristen serving for 5 points to take the second game 25-15, but Blue battled back hard and they took the final game 11-15.
"; article13UMcGregCup_13U += "The results of pool play came down to win/loss ratio as three of the four teams had 5 points each. We ended up first by just a slim margin. Unfortunately, this meant a three game break just like the Provincial Cup. This can sometimes work against a team…..but not us!
"; article13UMcGregCup_13U += "Our cross over game was against the Breakers. The Breakers were our nemesis last year as we lost every cross over game to them. Not so this year! With strong kills from Kristen and three aces from Erin we took the games 25-9 and 25-8.
"; article13UMcGregCup_13U += "On to the semi finals and we FINALLY met Attack Black. This was going to be a tough one. The first game included some fantastic rallies and a dance off between the linesmen (Gerald won!). Sabrina was pounding some great hits, Brier served for 5 points and Sydney was on fire at the net. The girls were playing their game and they took the first match with a score of 25-15. The second game Brier jammed her thumb badly but continued to play. The girls all played extremely well but the game went to Attack with a score of 22-25. The tiebreaker was going to be loud! Anyone who wasn’t playing on another court was in our court watching. The cheers from the bench and the spectators were deafening and it was a great game to watch. The game began with an ace from Sabrina. Attack was so busy cheering they didn’t hear the ref’s whistle…but Sabrina did! The score bounced back and forth point for point with neither team willing to give up but in the end we emerged victorious with a score of 17-15. We were on our way to the gold medal round…and this time there would be medals! Of course, if you ask anyone, the gold medal round was really played in the semi’s against Attack…it was without a doubt the best match of the day.

Even we parents were exhausted and could barely cheer them on! Storm took both games 21-25 and 8-25. The girls won their first Silver medal, in fact their first medal ever! So the girls have two 2nd place wins under their belts with one Silver medal. On to the Challenge Cup in Kingston where we hope to bring home another medal……ch-chit….RELOAD!!!!!!!!!!

"; article13UChallCup_13U += "Our 13U girls played in the Challenge Cup on Valentines Day, February 14th, in Kingston. It was our first road trip and the girls were excited to travel and stay in a hotel. Brier was out with a thumb injury but traveled to Kingston to cheer her teammates on. What dedication!
"; article13UChallCup_13U += "We had second game but got to the gym early to hand out our Provincial Championship flyers. The first team we faced were our own club mates, DRVC Orange or “Orange Crush!” With Brier injured our rotation was a little mixed and it took the girls some time to adjust; but with Mitch coaching from the side lines the girls got it together. The first game was close with our team winning 25-19. The Orange Crush gave us a run for our money with the second game but in the end we won that as well 25-13.
"; article13UChallCup_13U += "No rest, we went right out to face the Akwesasne Screaming Eagles. Both Jessie and Sabrina served the full 5 points and Christine was awesome at setting. With Kristens two aces we took the first game 25-8. In the second game Erin started and finished with the full 5 points each time. Add that to Brianne’s 5 points and its no wonder we took the second game with a score of 25-11.
"; article13UChallCup_13U += "We had a one game rest and then faced the final team in pool play, DA Red. Sydney had been playing with a fever and upset stomach and by the looks on the faces of the girls she wasn’t the only one feeling poorly. Red came out strong and it was a tough match but in the end we won 26-24. Despite a fantastic hit by Kristen to start the game and Erin’s great serving, we lost the second game 23-25. On to the tiebreaker (seems to be a pattern with DA Red again this year!) where great team work…bump, set, spike by Kristen, Christine and Jessie earned us the win 15-10.
"; article13UChallCup_13U += "Finishing first in the pool meant, once again, we had a two game wait plus the ˝ hour break between pool play and medals. We took the time to get the girls some food and let the sick ones rest.
"; article13UChallCup_13U += "With the girls refueled and feeling better we headed to our cross over match against the Breakers. With terrific setting by Christine and Maddy hustling all over the court we took the first game 25-13. Sabrina served for the full 5 points in game two helping to net us the win with a score of 25-10.
"; article13UChallCup_13U += "The next match was the semi finals, where once again, we faced DA Black. All the girls came out to win this grudge match. With Pepto Bismol to settle her stomach, Sydney was killing balls. Kristen had strong serves, Brianne served the full 5 and Maddy made great sets and we took the first game easily 25-16. Attack came back strong in game two but it went to us as well, 25-22. Our girls played the best they had all day and they deserved to win.

We were ahead for part of the game but the length of the day was getting to the girls and we lost the first game 19-25. Sitting for 3 hours and then playing back to back to back takes its toll on 12 year old girls. The Titans took the second game 12-25…but we had won SILVER! Back to back medals for our 13U girls.

And last, but definatley not least, our girls… who played their hearts out this Valentines Day. Thanks for another fantastic day of volleyball.

A learning experience for 13U

The girls competed in the 14U Hawkins Cup on Saturday February 21st. This was our first venture into 14U and the girls entered it with a little trepidation.
"; article14UHawkins_13U += "Jessie was on vacation and Brier was still injured so we were down to 7 players. Needing eight on the bench, Brier was in uniform but unable to play due to her thumb. Luckily, for a 14U tournament there is no forced rotation, so Brier didn’t have to play (tho she really, really, really wanted to…and we appreciate it Brier!)
"; article14UHawkins_13U += "Our powers and middles had to play all day in every game and with 12 limited substitutions our setters played lots too.
"; article14UHawkins_13U += "Their first opponents of the day were Interclub Blue 14U. They beat Interclub 25-19 and 25-15 with Erin serving for 5 points in the first game and Maddy earning 8 points in the second. Also in game two, Brianne was on the move and made some great saves and Kristen made a fantastic kill.
"; article14UHawkins_13U += "We faced DA Black second. As always this was a heated match, though both teams seemed a little sluggish. There were some great rallies but this time it was Attack&quo;s turn to win and they took both games 23-25 and 22-25.
"; article14UHawkins_13U += "We finished 2nd in pool play. 14U isn’t like 13U where it doesn’t pay to finish first in pool play (unless you find sitting idle for 3 hours a fun way to spend your afternoon). Finishing second meant we were going to face the #1 seeded team in the quarter’s instead of in the finals. But first the cross over.

Both Sabrina and Erin made some great hits despite the fact that Sabrina was wearing shoes 2 sizes to small (unlike the Grinch she has a big heart tho LOL!) Mitch played the class card when a ball the ref called in (in our favour) Mitch argued was out…which it was. Nice touch coach. The girls took the first game 25-15. In the second game Brianne was hustling, blocking and making great plays off the net and Sydney scored the game-winning kill, 25-13.
"; article14UHawkins_13U += "With Sabrina’s new shoes we went on to face Interclub Black 14U, the number one seeded team in this tournament. Christine made a great dig and her setting was fantastic but despite our hard work the girls lost the first game 19-25. Maddy served really well again in the second game and all the girls played extremely well but it was not to be and we lost the second game 18-25. Nothing to be ashamed of girls…you played your butts off!!!
"; article14UHawkins_13U += "For the first time this year we were out of the medal rounds and found ourselves playing for either 5th or 7th. We faced the Etobicoke Titans Black 13U and lost both games 20-25 and 14-25. The girl’s hearts just weren’t in it and we ended up 7th.
"; article14UHawkins_13U += "Ok, so we didn’t medal but we went in seeded 10th and came out 7th. No, we did not play our best but lets face it neither did anyone else…the scores show that. The silver lining is that we will remain in the Trillium Division for our next 14U and will face many of the same teams. We will show them that this tournament was just a one off bad day…so look out!

The 13U DRVC girls competed in The Bugarski Cup on March 7th in Brighton. The day started out great with an easy drive in the sunshine. Our first game was scheduled to begin at 9:45am.
"; article13UBugarski_13U += "We began the tournament with an amazing start beating the Breakers three straight! 25-13, 25-13 & 25-5. Our serves seemed to be at a peak with Brianne, Syndey, Kristen and Jessie all serving five in a row and each taking an Ace! WOW! Erin had some amazing Blocks and Brier was coming out strong with four spikes in the second game! Each of the three games ended with our girls serving and the other team not being able to return the ball.
"; article13UBugarski_13U += "Our second game was against Durham Attack Red and we were on fire! We returned their first serve right off the bat and Syndey came out strong with four serves unreturned in a row! Jessie followed through with a “Re-Load” and Christine with awesome serves and Aces! All together the team had twelve Aces in the three games. Sabrina and Sydney were the perfect combo at the net giving them eight power spikes that were unreturned by Red. Erin stuffed three of their spikes with a block. Everyone had great eyes on the ball calling OUT all over the place, including Dave! Thanks Dave! Red was no contest for us in all three games beating them 25-13, 25-19 & 25-20.
"; article13UBugarski_13U += "Our first cross-over game was against Durham Attack White and we were still HOT! Erin, Maddy and Kristen all started strong with power serves. Maddy set Brianne up for an amazing off-side spike that was gawked at in awe. Sydney was doing great with four killer serves in the second game and Christine setting her up just perfectly for the BOOM! Brier tricked them twice with tips just over the setters head and close to the line. The second game ended with Christine setting Sabrina and “Re-load” the team screamed as they cheered at their win! DRVC took both games straight 25-15 & 25-15.
"; article13UBugarski_13U += "Game #4 was our game to win. We wanted to win and were mighty happy for the game to begin! We’ve beat Attack Black before and knew we could do it. We started with killer spikes at the net and Sydney even set Christine up for her to have a turn. Christine returned the favour to Kristen the next round and deep court attack. We were tied at one point 18-18 but not even Maddy’s perfect serves or Jessie’s one arm dives could bring us the win. The first game ended with a loss of three points.
"; article13UBugarski_13U += "Knowing we could beat them twice more we started out the second game strong with a rally ending with Sydney spiking three times in a row! Down 1-6 we won the serve on an OUT and Jessie came back strong with a BOOM. We managed to narrow the gap from 4-12 to 7-13 but just couldn’t hold on. There were hard rallys at the net back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth but we just couldn’t get the ball to land on their court. Both Christine and Sydney had two amazing serves apiece and Brianne pulled her trick tip twice but it just wasn’t enough. Durham Attack Black won the second game 10-25.
"; article13UBugarski_13U += "The Bronze Medal game was going to be our game! We were taking home the Bronze whether Attack Red wanted it or not! Sabrina was hoping to play but just couldn’t do it. Her back and rib were much too sore. We started the game down a player and confused somewhat on who was to go where. Much to everyone’s surprise we won the serve right off the bat but couldn’t keep it. Not even Brier's amazing serve and spike reception in the back row was enough. Jessie hammered three at them in a row and continued on with awesome serves to bring us back to a 9-9.
"; article13UBugarski_13U += "But we couldn’t keep the lead. Maddy showed off her sliding saves twice and Kristen hammered two spikes at them. Sydney came back with an ACE and three serves followed by a block at the net but it just wasn’t enough. We lost the game 21-24.
"; article13UBugarski_13U += "Now’s our chance! We came out strong with Erins’ serves and POINT right off the bat followed by Maddys’ ACE and we were winning 7-5 before we knew it. Brianne threw a couple of deep free balls at them and they just didn’t know what to it. Kristen was on fire with five serves in a row and a couple of tips to end the game! We had WON 25-21. Good game girls!
"; article13UBugarski_13U += "Our final game begun with us winning the serve back on Briers’ awesome tip. Dave had a great call “OUT” and the serves starting going back and forth back and forth. There were a couple of bump rallys that ended with Jessies spike at the net but we couldn’t keep the serve. Christine pulled through with some amazing serves but it just wasn’t enough. We were down 6-12 before we knew it. Erin won our serve back on an amazing spike! This was followed by an amazing rally but it just wasn’t enough. Not even Brier's dives in the back row were enough to beat Attack Red. We were defeated in the Bronze medal final game 9-15.

Our Provincial Championships were a resounding success, not only for our girls but also for all 13U teams province wide!

We started bright and early on Friday April 3rd. The girl’s first opponents were Forest City Blue. Maddy started us off the first game by serving for 5 points! Jessie had an ace and Kristen served for 5 points as well and the win was ours with a score of 25-9. The girls were on fire and in the second game it was Erin serving for 5 points and Brier tipping nicely at the net. The final was 25-1. What a way to start the day!
"; article13UDRVCProv_13U += "Next we faced the Markham Stouffville Stingers. Once again our serving was fantastic with Erin, Kristen, and Jessie starting us off with 5 serves each! Maddy repeated in the second game with 5 points and the final scores were 25-9 and 25-12.
"; article13UDRVCProv_13U += "And the winning streak continued in the third match against Halton Hurricans Black. Our serving continued to be strong and although this was a more competitive match the girls had no problem taking the win 25-17. In game two Christine was making great passes to the setter every time but injured her wrist diving for a ball. She was out for the rest of the day, but after getting it checked out, joined injured Sabrina on the bench to cheer the team on! Our spiking was a solid as our serving with Erin scoring the game point in the second set for a 25-20 finish.
"; article13UDRVCProv_13U += "Our last game in pool play, and of the day, was against Oakville Thunder White. The fantastic serving continued with both Brianne and Sydney serving 5 points. Sydney scored an ace and kills by Jessie and great saves by Maddy gave us the win, 25-19. Game two started with Erin serving for 5 points twice as well as earning an ace, Jessie earning two aces, Kristen attacking the ball with a vengeance and Brianne and Sydney never giving up! It ended with Mitch calling the last ball out for a win of 25-16.

"; article13UDRVCProv_13U += "On day two all the teams had been divided into A and B divisions. Having finished first, and in Division A, the girls had a bye the first game. Now it was a one game elimination so we had to win and keep winning to stay in the tournament.
"; article13UDRVCProv_13U += "Our first game was against Scarborough Titans Omicron. Christine was back and although she couldn’t serve overhand, her underhand serves were right on the money. The girls played their 3 hit game. Maddy had a super cross-court spike for the 18th point and Brianne hit for the 24th point. The final score was 25-11. The hard work continued in game two with Christine setting nicely, Kristen spiking and Brier digging those backcourt balls. Jessie finished it off with back-to-back aces for another 25-11 win.

They played hard the second game but Blue played harder and we took our first loss of the tournament, 20-25. The tiebreaker was heartbreaking for our girls. We were up 14-11 but some bad calls and tough breaks and we lost 16-14. The girls were devastated…as were the parents! But our girls don’t give up…..
"; article13UDRVCProv_13U += "We met Toronto West for the bronze medal. The heat was back on with Maddy and Sydney serving for 5 points each. Brier was a hitting and digging machine and the girls won both games with scores of 25-17 and 25-18. The bronze was ours!
"; article13UDRVCProv_13U += "What a wonderful way to finish out our season! The girls earned 2 silver medals in regular play and the bronze in Provincials. The placed well in the two 14U tournaments they played in and overall were up in the top 4 all year long!

And speaking of best ever people….here’s to all the parents who drive the girls everywhere, bring all the great food and cheer their hearts out! And of course, to the girls….you ladies are a pleasure to watch play. Our chests are bursting with pride for your accomplishments this season. You all showed grace whether winning or losing and it was plain to see that you all had fun no matter what the outcome. The tournament was used to evaluate each team in order to rank them for future venues. Little did the girls know, over the course of the day, they would upset some projected rankings with their determination and teamwork.

The girls came out strong with an 8-0 lead in the final game but after a ‘nail-biter’ finale, lost to the ICE. The second match found BLUE facing the Cobourg Breakers. The girls played well to lead through and win both games. The final match of the pool proved to be a Highlight of the day, when they played Durham Attack’s top 13U Team (Black). The girls met their opponents head to head and with hard, consistent play showed the excited spectators what they were capable of as a team. BLUE took both games, finishing 1st in their pool.

After a disappointing defeat, the girls regrouped to play the Scarborough Titans, their toughest competition so far. The girls played extremely well defensively against some tough hitting but in the end, lost both games to this strong team. The final match proved to be another Highlight of the day when BLUE took on the DRVC (White) team. In a very close, hard fought first game, the girls showed some of their best playing, defeating their sister team by 2 points. Although the girls never gave up, showing some awesome court coverage, the White team beat the girls by only 3 points in the 2nd game and went on to win by 4 points in the final game. Wow.....what a fantastic effort by each and every team member! You finished fourth in the ranking out of 11 teams!

While this was a friendly tournament, it gave the 13U Blue team a chance to play together in a tournament setting for the first time this year, which provided good practice and good experience.

"; article13UBYorkInv += "What a dedicated group of girls...and parents. Despite treacherous driving conditions the DRVC Blue team arrived at York University on Sunday, January 18th (dragging coolers through the snow) to play at the York Invitational 14U tournament.
"; article13UBYorkInv += "The team met the Titan Shock in the first match. BLUE won the closely fought first game 25-23. In the second game, the Titans managed to creep ahead and win 25-19. In the final game, BLUE won 18-16 in an exciting finish which showcased their skill and determination to win.
"; article13UBYorkInv += "In the second match, BLUE convincingly beat the Predators Purple Team 25-13 in the first game but lost their edge in the second, with the Predators winning 25-17. Once again, the BLUE girls rallied together and won the final game 15-5.

"; article13UMcGregCup_13UB += "In their first match, BLUE faced Aurora’s Storm ICE team. The girls had to ‘wake-up’ rather quickly to battle the Storm team’s great offense. BLUE battled hard to a close finish with the Storm winning the first game 25-23. As in other games, the girls grew stronger from their loss and came back to take the second game 25-21. The final game went to the Storm girls and their very impressive serving in a 15-5 finish.

The girls played strong defensively and led the game to a 15-11 final.

Valentine’s Day found the DRVC Blue Team in Kingston (at Loyalist CVI) to play the sport they ‘love’ in the OVA’s Challenge Cup.
"; article13UChallCup_13UB += "The first pool match had BLUE facing off against Etobicoke’s E381 team. Despite a very early morning for most of the girls, the team was ready for the challenge, taking both games 25-7 and 25-22.
"; article13UChallCup_13UB += "n the second match, the girls met Titan’s OMICRON team. With some great serving and hits, BLUE again took both games 25-8 and 25-12.
"; article13UChallCup_13UB += "The Durham Attack Black team played the girls in the third match. The first game found both teams battling hard in a very exciting, close game. In the end, BLUE came ahead to win 25-23. Although the score was tied at 12 in the second game, Durham Attack pulled ahead with some great hits to win 25-19. At the midpoint of the 3rd game the score was 8-7 for Durham Attack who ended up taking the game 15-9.

In the second game, BLUE seemed to lose their momentum in the first half and although they battled back in the second half, couldn’t overcome ICE’s lead and lost the game 17-25.

The second game, again, had some exciting long rallies. With persistence and determination, BLUE won the game 25-18. The scoring of the third game showed just how well matched the two teams were. At the midpoint, the score was tied at 7....tied again at 13... and at 14....both teams battling hard leaving the cheering spectators on the edge of their seats. In a fantastic final rally, BLUE finished victorious with a score of 16-14. WOW, what a great way to end the day!

On March 7th, and for the second time this season, the DRVC Blue team headed to Brighton, Ontario, this time to participate in the Bugarski Cup.
"; article13UBugarski_13UB += "In the first pool match, BLUE faced the Akwesasne Soaring Eagles team. With strong serving, and many well-controlled plays, the girls captured both games 25-11 and 25-8.
"; article13UBugarski_13UB += "Next, BLUE played DRVC Orange. Once again, the girls played well and took both games 25-9 and 25-16.
"; article13UBugarski_13UB += "The third match against Durham Attack’s Black team proved to be a monumental turning point to the day. In the beginning, BLUE came out strong with some very intense rallies. At the halfway point, the score was 14-13 for Durham Attack. Unfortunately, BLUE lost momentum during the second half, scoring only 2 more points before Durham Attack took the game in a 25-15 finish. In the second game, the team couldn’t get back into their ‘volleyball groove’, repeatedly making mistakes they don’t usually make. Consequently, they lost the game 25-10.

Again, the girls seemed to lose focus, having difficulty returning serves and judging the lines. Durham Attack proved stronger in the end, taking the first game 25-18 and also won the second.

"; article13UMcGregCup_13UO += "On January 24th the girls competed in the 13U McGregor Cup at Northumberland SS in Brighton. The girls had a good day of volleyball showing how far they have come since September. Way to go girls.
"; article13UMcGregCup_13UO += "The girls began the day playing Durham Attack Black, and though they did not come out with a win they worked hard and played probably their strongest game ever. They played two games with scores of 7-25 and 17-25 going to Attack Black, though the scores were not reflective of DRVC’s play. The girls did not let any balls hit the floor, they played three hits on most plays and worked together as a team.
"; article13UMcGregCup_13UO += "Next up was two matches against Akwesasne, where our girls stayed strong and won 25-18 and 25-20, with strong serving performances by Maddy, Abbigail and Emma, serving their maximum 5 consecutive.

During this game Emma was injured and this left the girls down one team mate, however it also seemed to inspire them to play stronger and they made a strong come back coming up just short of a win in the second match.
"; article13UMcGregCup_13UO += "The fourth match of the day found DRVC Orange playing DRVC Blue. It was fun to watch two teams from the same club competing on the court and supporting each other off the court. The girls had some good rallies and fought hard against their club mates, resulting in losses of 14-25 and 18-25 for the Orange.
"; article13UMcGregCup_13UO += "At the end of the day the girls were back on the court to play Storm Blizard to scores of 25-20 and 25-16, both going in favour of DRVC. Maddy came on strong for our team serving 7 consecutive serves in the first game and 5 in the second.
"; article13UMcGregCup_13UO += "The girls have come along way in their serves, which has helped to keep them in the games fighting back. Many successes were seen over the course of the day with some great blocks, hits and saves. It was a great day and the girls should feel good about how far they have come as individuals and as a team.

With the threat of "Fancy Shorts" being sported by the coaches as added incentive looming, here’s a “brief” run-down of DRVC Orange Crush at the Challenge Cup.
"; article13UChallCup_13UO += "Valentines Day of 2009 was a day packed full of Volleyball ups and downs in Kingston. It was an early start to the day for most everyone, and an even longer day for some. But this is why we do it after all.
"; article13UChallCup_13UO += "The girls came to Kingston with a set of objectives set out by the coaches.
"; article13UChallCup_13UO += "The Crushers came out with vigor, intensity, and a complete look of teamwork vs. fellow club members DRVC ‘A’. They were able to play "3-ball" for most of the first set and looked better than ever. They were also willing to hit the floor for a great dig without hesitation, and without a doubt! Sammy’s smile, along with her serves, said it all. Yes, it was a 19-25 loss on paper, but hardly a loss at all in terms of teamwork and team development. The second set was much of the same with the Crushers refusing to just quit. A sight to see!
"; article13UChallCup_13UO += "Game two against Durham Attack Red was important, and one of the objectives. They came out strong winning the first set 25-21. They played well; with more 3-ball, but fell a bit short losing set two 10-25. The third set was something truly fun to watch as the girls kicked it up again for a time, only to fall short at 11-15.
"; article13UChallCup_13UO += "A very confident, well fed team marched along to match 3 having played well in the past against Akwesasne Soaring Eagles. Realizing the opponent, it seemed like a straightforward match. The quote of the day; "Don’t think it’s easy. This is Volleyball and things change fast! Nothing is guaranteed, there is no such thing as an easy win." And so it was. With an exciting start to set one leading 10-2 something wasn’t just right. The girls stopped moving and talking and their level of played suffered accordingly. We ended up taking the first game, but not by much. After jumping out to a commanding 10-2 lead in the second set things got tough. Akwesasne fought back yet again to take the second game 26-28. Hard fought yet again, the third and final set didn’t go the Crushers way losing 14-16.
"; article13UChallCup_13UO += "The team regrouped and came up against a strong Durham Attack White team in the cross over game. What a fight they put up! Strong serves, 3-ball hits, and just plain gutsy play for the most part. After losing the first set 21-25 (having been up) they came back to win by the same margin in the second game. The tie breaker was a disappointing loss 10-15.
"; article13UChallCup_13UO += "After winning against E381 the Crushers then faced Akwesasne again in our final match of the day. The opening game saw us really take it to Akwesasne and the result was a win 25-18. Then back to not moving and calling the ball we were soundly beaten in the second game 14-25. The coaches were able to rally the girls for the tie breaker and we ended the day on a positive note taking the tie breaker 15-8. Way to finish strong girls!

On March 7th the road to the highly anticipated DRVC Provincials landed the DRVC Crushers back in Brighton for the Bugarski Cup. A long day of fun and Volleyball awaited everyone. The challenges ahead started very early with two very difficult matches to start the day.
"; article13UBugarski_13UO += "Once again the girls came up against Durham Attack Black to begin the day. They fell short in the first set losing 13-25 however it was closer than the score reflected. They had movement and awareness, with appreciation for the strength of their opposition. Up against a strong serving team with good movement and a great deal of power, intimidation became a factor and the second set went to Black 25-8.
"; article13UBugarski_13UO += "Game 2 found the Crushers up against fellow club mates, DRVC Blue, once again. Fatigue was apparent as the team came out rather flat. The communication shown early in the morning escaped them after they fell behind quickly. A 9-25 first set was the result. The second set showed improvement, although the movement was still missing. Injured early in the set, Claire bounced back and helped inspire the team. Playing stronger, Blue was still able to take the set 25-15.

"; article13UBugarski_13UO += "The final game of pool play put the Soaring Eagles in their sights once again. Thankfully the sting from the Kingston loss was still fresh on the minds of the girls and they came out strong. Solid 3-ball efforts and excellent serving by Sarah Hill, and Claire Packer (both with five in a row, and Sarah just missing a second) were a pleasure to watch. Up 8-1 in the first set they lost focus for a time but regrouped to win 25-19. The second was similar, letting them back in after leading, yet they came out on top 25-15.
"; article13UBugarski_13UO += "The all important crossover game placed us up against the host Northumberland Breakers. More 3-ball, and more great 5-in-a-row serving lead the way. Not to mention, the movement and communication! Set 1 consisted of 2 aces by Madyson enroute to her chocolate bar winning 5 straight with Alyssa’s same result to follow shortly after. A 25-10 win was the best we’ve seen the girls play. Oh, and not a SINGLE missed serve in the first! Calling the ball in the second set was huge along with great encouragement and strong team support, both on court and from the bench. Really nice to hear and fun to watch. A 25-17 second set win was the result.

They girls looked confident against strong serves and hard spikes. Able to rally well they fell short at 11-25 in the first set. The second set was more confident and strong play. The Crushers were just ahead but some misfortune led to a 23-25 deficit.
"; article13UBugarski_13UO += "The highlight of the day for those of us watching came against the Storm Blizzard in game 6. WOW! What a nerve racking treat this 3 set match was. More five serve trips, more enthusiasm, more aces, and a great ability (or willingness) to follow the ball. The quote of the day came in a 25-23 first set win. "Hit the snot out of the ball!" So they did just that. Set two was a little awkward as the girls started well but then appeared to lose focus. Strong rallies weren’t enough as a nervous feeling certainly came over the supporters in the seats and the set went down 12-25. As for the most exciting and nervous part of the entire day, set 3. Down 3-10 early, and quickly, something clicked. They got their feet, their voices, and strong support from DRVC Blue, as well as the parental support as always in the seats! With a solid 5 serve showing by Emma (she wanted the chocolate!) the comeback was underway. They fought hard and just didn’t give up. They hit the floor, without letting the ball do it. A solid 15-11 victory resulted.

Ahhh…At last the day had finally arrived! With every player, coach, and fan sporting their water wings in order to descend on Durham College, it was finally time to begin the last event of the season. With the tournament format changes behind us, our goals and direction set, it was time to play. Without the threat of the coaches donning “ Fancy Shorts” the girls were able to focus along with their supporters, which were out in full force.
"; article13UDRVCProv_13UO += "Game 1, after a much shorter drive and a slightly later start, it was GAME ON! Etobicoke Blue was the challenge. A strong team, with power serves and good movement. Was DRVC Orange CRUSH up to it? You bet! Falling short in the first set (16-25) and looking disappointed they fought back. Julie, nursing a hand injury, wasn’t about to let up, driving the ball back over harder then ever helping the team make a solid effort in set 2, although falling 22-25. And then…

Sarah English led the way with her 5er. Overall better communication and movement was obvious. Alyssa’s focus was two fold, stuffing the on coming spikes and also launching the ball back at the opposition thanks to some great sets from smile’n Sammy. Orange was a treat to watch. Leading early and then letting Elite Blue back into it they took the first set 25-21. That energy enabled the entire team, without exception, to rally for a decisive 25-10 second set win.

With the majority of the team having struggled with their serves to this point, balanced play, leadership on and off court kept them going. BOOM! Scheduling changes took the girls away from the routine of their day, which may have been a factor. With a tough start to set one, and decent come back, we fell short with a 19-25 result. It didn’t get any easier during the second set against a team that wanted so badly to improve on the day. With our wheels falling off, we chased the tires to a disappointing 10-25 loss.

"; article13UDRVCProv_13UO += "Finishing pool play with an impressive 10th seed in the ‘A’ Division brought our young ladies to a match against the 7th seeded Toronto West. The stands were packed with great support for both teams (even though the previous days’ action left most people loosing their voices!). The nerves were clear as T-West jumped out early. The Crushers “never give-up” attitude allowed them to make a game of it in a 14-25 loss.
"; article13UDRVCProv_13UO += "The second set was similar, down 0-11 to start, as T-West came out serving rockets over the net, a great rally sparked by Claire’s feistiness earned the Crushers the ball. Soranne was up to serve and nailed a 5er to help light up her teammates. With some fantastic play, desperation dives, a couple of great digs by Emma, and strong hits they found themselves back in it. Unfortunately more rockets came over and a 16-25 deficit resulted and closed out the tournament. Those scores have little reflection on how well they played though.

For many of the girls it was their first season playing ball at this level. I had a coach tell me how surprised he was to hear that. "; article15UProvCup_14U += "We started our day against the Titans Inc. 15U. Laura had an awesome run of serves and both Laura and Mackenzie were a force to be reckoned with at the net. We took the first game 25-18. In our second game Paige was tipping balls right left and centre over the net but we lost 17-25. Maybe Coach Joel’s dancing had something to do with our loss LOL!!! The girls came back in the third game taking it 15-13 with help from Mackenzie’s serving and killer hits by Shawna.

We took the first game 25-23. In our second game Taylor was protecting our side of the net with tips and blocks and Olivia made several amazing backwards bumps to solidify our win with a score of 25-22.

The girls came back with a vengeance in the second game. Brianna was a serving machine and Cydney was amazing at covering the court to save missed blocked balls. With Heather Ann’s game winning kill the final score was 25-21. On to the tiebreaker. We had really rattled Attack Black with our win and we came on strong in the third with excellent rallies and amazing determination, but it was not to be and the final score was 8-15.

We had some excellent rallies and Matty made a nice kill, allowing us to take the first game 27-25. Cydney was great at the net and we also took the second game 25-19.
"; article15UProvCup_14U += "Our last match of the day was against Rapids Black 15U. Shawna’s awesome serving took us to a 25-9 victory. Even with Ally’s amazing back row saves we were unable to take the second game and lost with a score of 19-25. Another tiebreaker. Our girls were beat, most having been up since 5:00 that morning. They seemed to be a little asleep on the court and allowed the Rapids Blue to get a quick 8 points. We switched sides and the Rapids Blue added another 2 points. Then we woke up! After being down 0-10 in a 15-point game our girls came back to only lose by 12-15! If we had had a higher point game we would have taken it easily. We ended up either 2nd or 3rd in round robin. It was an excellent showing for not only our first tournament, but also our first 15U tournament.

14U Goes Undefeated at the 14U Provincial Cup in Newmarket!

"; article14UProvCup_14U += "The 14U team had an amazing start to their season today. Coming off a great showing at the 15U Provincial Cup the previous weekend, the girls went undefeated all day!
"; article14UProvCup_14U += "The first match of the day was against Attack Black 13U. Olivia served up nine consecutive points and we took the first game 25-10. Paige served for six consecutive points and we took the second game 25-19.
"; article14UProvCup_14U += "Our next opponent was Pegasus. Brianna was setting Matty up for multiple kills and we took the first game 25-9. With a knee-sliding save from Laura we took the second game 25-16.
"; article14UProvCup_14U += "Our last game in pool play was against the Northumberland Breakers. We had some great rallies in this game…even the ref said so! Laura was blocking, Matty was diving and hitting and Cydney was stuffing the ball…is it any wonder we won the first game 25-13? Taylor started us off in the second game with a run of six and then finished it off with the final three points for a score of 25-9.

14U Girls Continue Winning Streak at the McGregor Cup in Brighton!

"; article14UMcGreg_14U += "The 14U girls competed in the McGregor Cup on January 10th at East Northumberland SS in Brighton and continued their winning streak.
"; article14UMcGreg_14U += "The games were off to a slow start when everyone realized that the OVA had not sent referees! Luckily our hosts, the Breakers, were able to step up to the plate with certified referees and the games began.
"; article14UMcGreg_14U += "Our first opponents were the Knights VC. It was a very quiet game both on the bench and in the stands, but our cheers were loud when the girls took both games 25-11 and 25-13.

"; article14UChallCup_14U += "The 14U team spent a cold wintery weekend in North Bay playing in the Challenge Cup. Both Paige and Matty were unable to make this tournament but the rest of the team was primed to win in North Bay!
"; article14UChallCup_14U += "The girls faced the North Bay Blizzard first. Great serving by Mackenzie and a nice save right at the wall by Laura helped us take the first game 25-20. Despite kills by Heather, digs by Ally and a couple of nice blocks by Taylor, we lost the second game 22-25. This was our first loss of the season and the girls were a little surprised. The tiebreaker also went to North Bay with a score of 10-15.
"; article14UChallCup_14U += "Our next opponents were Interclub. The girls played much stronger and with a sweet tip by Cydney and amazing serving by Brianna we took the first game 25-21. The girls came back even stronger in game two with Olivia serving for 13 points! Coach Joel subbed her out, as we were so far ahead, a very gracious act. The final score was 25-9.

"; article14UChallCup_14U += "The next match determined if we continued on to the medal rounds or went on to play for 5th/7th and we FINALLY met Attack Black 14U! Both teams really wanted this win so we all knew it was going to be a tough one. In game one Taylor and Laura were a wall at the net, Shawna and Heather were hard hitters and Brianna once again was a solid server. Olivia got hurt but after a short rest continued to play. Laura had a nice tip to end the game with a score of 25-13. Game two continued with great playing on both sides but our girls played better and we took game two 25-20. We were on to the medal rounds.
"; article14UChallCup_14U += "To decide if we were going for gold or bronze we faced Storm Twister. There were some fantastic rallies and all the girls played well but Storm took match with scores of 25-18 and 25-13. So bronze it was!
"; article14UChallCup_14U += "We faced our final opponents of the day, the Barrie Elites. The girls switched things up by changing into their orange jerseys and went into this game to have some fun. It started with Coach Joel joining in the start of game cheer while Coach Scott almost fell off his seat laughing! Shawna started us off with some killer serves and also finished the game off with the same killer serves, netting us the win with a score of 25-15. Shawna and Cydney served well in game two and Mackenzie made the game-winning kill! We won 25-22. The girls had taken bronze!

On February 14th the girls competed in the 15U Challenge Cup at Northumberland SS in Brighton. The girls had a great day of volleyball and came away with the Gold Medal, as well as the experience of playing with the taller net and against some taller, perhaps more intimidating girls. Way to go girls.
"; article15UChallCup_14U += "The girls began the day playing Durham Attack Black 14U, and you could feel the tension in the air as the last time the girls met, DRVC won. Attack was looking for a win and they managed to get it. The girls had a slow start to the day, though they won the first match 25-22, they struggled through the next two giving up both games to scores of 7-25 and 9-15.
"; article15UChallCup_14U += "Next up was Pegasus Fusion, where our girls played strong and won 25-10 and 25-9, with strong serving performances by many of the girls.
"; article15UChallCup_14U += "This was the end of the round robin and with a second place standing, we faced The National Capitals in the crossover game, where the girls easily won both matches with scores of 25-10 and 25-13.
"; article15UChallCup_14U += "The girls then played their club mates, facing DRVC Orange 15U. It was a slow start in the first match, for the 14U girls, but they managed to tie it up at 15 but then lost 21-25. The next two matches showed a strong start but then the girls had trouble hanging on to their leads, resulting in close matches but still a successful finish for the 14U girls, resulting in scores of 25-21 and 15-10.
"; article15UChallCup_14U += "In the Semi-finals the girls played Pegasus Rampage in a three game match to win. Pegasus presented strong competition to the girls, with DRVC winning the first match 25-18, followed by a loss of 23-25, and then the tie breaker giving our girls the win in a 15-9 game.
"; article15UChallCup_14U += "The championship game of the day saw the girls playing Scarborough Titans which resulted in some great volleyball, however the girls stayed focused and won the championship in two matches with scores of 25-20 and 25-23.
"; article15UChallCup_14U += "We missed Taylor on the floor as she was nursing a sprained ankle, though she was there to cheer on the team. Cydney had an awesome day rising to the occasion to help cover the loss of Taylor. Way to go Cyd.

A special thanks to Joel and Megan for giving up their Saturday and motivating the girls to show what they are made of. On February 21st the girls competed in the 14U Hawkins Cup at Huron Heights SS in Newmarket. The girls had another spectacular day of volleyball and came away with their third Gold Medal of the season. Way to go girls.

"; article14UHawk_14U += "Next up was the Maverick Gold Diggers where the play was fast and furious giving the girls two quick wins with scores of 25-12 and 25-16.
"; article14UHawk_14U += "At the end of the round robin play and with a first place standing in their pool, they faced Storm Blast. After a strong serving performance by Ally, Joel changed up the serving but this did not break the girls momentum and they were still able to carry on to win 25-6. The second match saw more competition but the girls showed what they were made of, with strong team play, and again the win of 25-21.
"; article14UHawk_14U += "The girls played North Bay in the semi-finals fighting it out in a three game challenge but coming out the victors with scores of 25-17, 19-25 and the tie breaker 15-10.
"; article14UHawk_14U += "The gold medal match put two local clubs against each other. The teams had each seen one win against each other and only one could come away with the gold. The match went to two games and both teams were strong. Both matches were won by our girls, but Attack did not give up without a fight, the score went back and forth and it seemed to be anyone’s game but at the end of the day the girls won it 25-22 and 25-21 and took home the gold medal.

Thanks again to Joel for giving up so much for our girls and thanks to Scott who stepped in, in Megan&lsquo's absence, to help on the bench. 2009 South County 14U CAN/AM Invitational

The 14U team headed to Windsor on March 7th to compete in the CAN/AM Invitational. Even Shawna, who had injured her knee and was unable to play, made the trip to cheer her teammates on. Joel, our dedicated leader, spent his birthday weekend away from his family to coach the girls. What a team we have!!
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "This tournament afforded the girls the opportunity to play some of the best teams from the west, including the number one seeded team, Forest City Green. With our girls seeded number one in the east, everyone was hoping that the two teams would have a chance to meet.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "The rules for this tournament were a combination of American and Canadian volleyball rules. We played at women’s height nets, could play off the roof if it was on our side, had unlimited subs and a libero but the girls still had to have a clean hit off the serve.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "Our first game of the day was against Forest City Blue. The girls started off a little sluggish but worked hard to pull off a 27-25 win in the first game. With some nice hits from Paige, Heather-Ann and Mackenzie the girls took the match with a win of 25-21.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "We had to travel to the second school for the next game. Luckily it was within sight of the first school and no one got lost (a problem we all had getting to the first game!)
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "With Shawna out of commission we had no libero unlike the Legacy Elites, our first American opponents, but it didn’t harm our game! The girls came out strong in the first game and took it easily 25-12. Sydney served for 6 points and Heather-Ann made a great dig in the second game and the match was ours with a score of 25-18.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "We headed back to the St. Anne’s for the rest of the day.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "Our next opponents were the KW Predators Purple. Laura and Brianna were serving hard and Olivia made some nice cross-court hits. In an unfortunate turn of events, Joel ended up being carded for questioning a call but it just made our 25-18 win all the sweeter! In the second game Matty was finding the holes in the other court and was a serving machine earning 8 straight points! Mackenzie made a kill for the last point and the win was ours with a score of 25-16.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "We met our hosts next, South County Teal. They too played with a libero and their coach took full advantage of the unlimited sub rule by subbing players after just about each play. This added significantly to the length of the game and was a little frustrating. Still, Allie and Taylor never gave up at the net and Laura and Olivia made a fantastic double block to help take the first game 25-21. The girls fell behind the second game and even the fact that Allie’s great serving brought us to within a one-point difference wasn’t enough. The final score was 22-25.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "We next met our second American team of the day, the Michigan Elites Platinum. Our middles, Taylor and Laura, were a wall at the net, blocking just about everything that came over. Brianna made a fantastic save and her setting allowed Allie, Taylor and Matty to attack the ball with amazing kills. Sydney served our last point to win the game 25-22.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "In game two the girls continued their strong play. Paige was passing really well and made some great hits to boot! Mackenzie was blocking well and Sydney was right there for recovery if the ball got by Mackenzie. Add to that Brianna’s great setting and Heather-Ann’s save and it’s no wonder we also took the second game 25-18. Taylor was the cherry on top with her on-court Elf Dance!
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "The girls had finished first in their pool and now faced the Burlington Blaze who had finished 2nd in their pool behind Forest City Green. We really wanted this win, as the girls would then likely go on to play Forest City Green.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "There were many excellent rallies in this game as both teams played hard. Olivia was setting beautifully and our powers were hitting really well. Poor Taylor took a ball in the face but that didn’t stop her from executing some great kills! The game went point for point but in the end our girls took it 27-25.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "In the second game Allie made a slick one handed save and once again Laura and Taylor were solid at the net. But the tide had turned and we lost 20-25.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "Unlike pool play where we played just 2 games to 25, the playoffs were the regular best 2 out of 3 so we headed into the tiebreaker. The girls played extremely well and fought back a number of times but it was not to be and we lost the final game 16-18.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "So after the long drive to Windsor, we were not going to meet Forest City Green after all. We played the bronze medal match against South County Teal. Once again the girls played well. Paige bumped one ball to the ceiling and came down so fast that she just reacted and hit it again! Too bad it didn’t count…it was a nice hit! LOL!!! Allie made some great kills but we lost the game 23-25.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "he South County coach was still subbing excessively and the games seemed to drag on! In game two Laura ran hard to save a ball and put it back into play for Matty to get over the net but even that didn’t help us to win. The final score was 19-25.
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "It was a very long day but the girls played extremely well. We didn’t get to meet Forest City Green but we will in the Provincials and we proved that we have a real shot of winning gold there (was it ever really in doubt?).
"; article14UCANAM_14U += "We would all like to thank Brian and Sean for doing lines as well as all the parents for not only driving the girls but for also supplying the food. A special thank you to Kathy for the amazing birthday cake for Joel…you are an artist! Thanks to Sydney for showing us what a beautiful dancer she is…it was wonderful to watch Syd! A big thank you to Kevin for making all the hotel arrangements….we really appreciate it! Of course, as always, thanks to our fearless leaders Joel and Meghan for your dedication to the girls. And once again…thank you to our absolutely fantastic 14U girls for providing another exciting weekend of volleyball…you are the BEST!!!!!

The 14U team travelled to Ottawa the weekend of March 28th to compete in the 14U Girls Open.
"; article14UOpen_14U += "This was our first tournament since Windsor and the girls were looking to take another medal. Unfortunately, like Windsor, we were one player short as Laura sprained her ankle at Thursday nights practice. But in what has become typical form for our team she travelled to Ottawa to cheer her teammates on!
"; article14UOpen_14U += "Great serving from Matty (8 points!) and kills from Olivia and Heather Ann gave us a victory over our first opponents DA Red. The girls took both games easily with scores of 25-11 and 25-15.
"; article14UOpen_14U += "Allie’s keen eye, bump set spike’s by Taylor, Paige and Heather Ann and a fantastic slide save from Olivia gave us our second straight win of the day; taking Storm Blast 25-12 and 25-21.
"; article14UOpen_14U += "Once again we were first in pool play and headed into our cross over game against the Georgian Cubs. Taylor and Paige followed in Matty’s footsteps from the first game and served up 7 and 8 points respectively. Joel showed what a fair coach he is by calling a ball “in” that the ref had called “out” and Mackenzie provided great cover and made a couple of good hits, all to give us our third straight win of the day with scores of 25-16 and 25-6.
"; article14UOpen_14U += "In the semi finals we met the Barrie Elites. In the first game Cydney was blocking, killing balls and covering ones that got past the net. Brianna was setting and serving like only she can and we won 25-14. The girls played hard the second game and battled point for point. But even great hits by Shawna couldn’t help us and we lost 26-28. In the third game the girls came back even stronger and took the tiebreaker 15-10. Once again we were playing for gold.
"; article14UOpen_14U += "In the gold medal match we met North Bay who were seeded 2nd to our 1st. It would be a very evenly matched medal round as both teams had beaten the other in different tournaments. In fact it was so evenly matched that while we took the first game 25-15, North Bay took the second 15-25! The tiebreaker was a nail bitter going almost point for point but in the end it was North Bay who took the gold with a score of 13-15. The girls now have a bronze, silver and several gold medals for all their hard work! On to Provincials where we are seeded 2nd in all of Ontario!

Our 14U Girls work hard at the Ontario Championships!

We had the second game on Friday April 26, starting the day at 9:10 am against Waterloo. The girls came out to win and with very strong serving, including 5 points from Olivia, took the match 25-6 and 25-17. The next game against Woodstock started off slow but the girls took both sets with scores of 25-16, 25-22. Once again it was strong serving, this time by Ally who brought us back from an 8-14 deficit in game two, that helped win the game. In game three we faced our own Blue team. This was to be the closest match of the day. We had some fantastic rallies and both teams played to win. In the end, we took both games 25-20 and 25-23. This meant the girls had a first place finish in pool play.
"; article14UOntChamp_14U += "Saturday’s re pool meant we were facing teams who had finished first or second in their pools so the competition would be stronger. Again we had a 9:10 am start and faced South County Teal. Cydney was serving hard but it wasn’t enough to win and South County took the first game 22-25. The girls came back with a vengeance and, with a fantastic block by Shawna, they took the second game 25-15. Despite a header by Laura from which Taylor recovered for the point (LOL!), we lost the third game 13-15. The girls faced Halton Hurricanes next. Brianna was setting really well and the first game was a win for us with a score of 25-17. Then everything seemed to just fall apart for the girls and the Hurricanes took the next two games 11-25 (yikes, that hurts) and 8-15 (still smarting). The last match of the day had the girls facing the Maverick Goldiggers. Once again it was our serving that helped win the game with Matty serving for an amazing 12 straight points! No wonder she won the Award of Excellence! Heather Anne was digging and killing balls, Paige was a star setter and we took the first game easily with a score of 25-13. The girls were back! Joel and Meghan joined in the game starting cheer for game two which really got the girls pumped! The second set was an easy victory, 25-14. Once the dust settled, the girls had earned a 2nd place finish in re pool play.

The 14U team travelled to State College for the Happy Volley Tournament at Penn State on Memorial Day weekend, and what a weekend it was!

The girls were seeded 5th out of the 71 teams playing in the 14U Division, so faced lower seeded teams on Saturday and the scores show that. Their first opponents of the day were the Ocean City Spikers and the girls took both sets easily with scores of 25-14 and 25-11. Next they faced the KEVA Flames, winning both sets 25-9 and 25-10. Our last game of the day was against VolleyFX 13 Jinx, and once again DRVC was the winner with scores of 25-9 and 25-4.
"; article14UHV_14U += "Day two we were re pooled and faced stronger teams. Again, it was a bright and early start but the girls came to play! They faced the Maryland Juniors first and with a fantastic quick by Cydney, set by Olivia, they took the first match 25-22. Tables were turned for match two and Maryland took it 22-25 for our first loss of the tournament. The tiebreaker was ours when Laura served a flubber that fell on the Maryland’s side. The final score was 15-7.

Their next opponents were another Cross-Court team (they had 3 or 4 teams there) and it was déjŕ vu as the girls took the game 25-15 and 25-20. That’s two!

The Stewartville Stingers were the last hurdle between the girls and that gold medal, and they were going to jump it! The first match went to us with a score of 25-14. The girls were flying high…one set to go! The score was 22-16 and the girls realized they were just 3 points away from the gold. The looks on their faces said it all…they were going home with that gold medal. The final score was 25-16.
"; article14UHV_14U += "So ends our season, and what a fantastic season it was! Our medal haul was three gold’s in 14U, one gold in 15U, one silver and one bronze both in 14U. But medals aren’t everything. The new friendships made and the continuation of old friendships is worth a million gold medals. The girls grew as at team and stuck together through the good and not so good games. These are the things that really count.

14U Blue Starts off Season at Provincial Cup.

"; article14UProvCup_14UB += "Well our season got off to a great start at the Provincial Cup in New Market on Dec.6th. After almost 2 months of practicing it was finally time to see how the girls faired against other teams.
"; article14UProvCup_14UB += "Our first game of the season was against the Ottawa Roo’s. The girls played great and took both games 25-10 & 25-12.
"; article14UProvCup_14UB += "Next we met the Peterborough Thunder. We took the first game 25-21. Peterboro came back to take the 2nd game 15-25. It went to a 3rd game & unfortunately we fell short with the score ending up at 10-15.
"; article14UProvCup_14UB += "The final team we met in our pool play was the Aurora Storm. There were lots of great rallies back and forth and our girls played strong to win both games with the scores of 25-20 & 29-27.

Rachel got the girls back into the game in the first set when they were down 21-11 and served 9 in a row to get the score to 21-20. But the girls fell short. The second set was hard fought. With some great digs and lots of action at the net we still could not get the win & lost that set 21-25. It was only early yet.

That gave us the confidence we needed, with the final score of the game ending in our favor 25-07. The score of the second set was much closer however with some great moves by Alycia at the net, Katie’s great serves, and Victoria’s digs the girls won by the score of 25-18.

Of course the winner of this game would go on to the gold medal round and who were we to meet? Our sister team, DRVC.

The game was close and could have gone either way, unfortunately we lost the first set 22-25 and the second set 16-25 The girls played fantastic. The girls fought hard with some great digs by Liz & Mackenzie worked her magic setting up our powers for some beautifully placed balls. Great ‘3 hit’ ball girls! There were some excellent rallies back and forth but we just couldn’t squeak out the win. Great effort by all the girls. Onto the bronze medal round.

The first set was full of some great serving and some hard hits by Brittany, Kelsey, Maddie, Alycia, Rachel, and Mackenzie. Our team took the match 25-19. Then came the second game. The Peterborough team were out to win, however Kate, Liz, Victoria, Jamila, Katie and Hailey had a different plan. The score seemed to go point for point but our girls did not give up. They kept digging, setting and hitting to the right spots to stay in the game. Just when it looked like the game was turning to Peterborough’s favour, Jamila tipped it over to tie up the game 25-25. Oh the stress! Kate had all the pressure on her shoulders but she served “the bullet” not once but twice to give us the game. The final score was 27-25. Way to go girls!!!! We took home the bronze! It was a perfect way to end the day! The girls all wore their medals with pride.

14U Challenge Cup Jan. 31st, 2009!

"; article14UChallCup_14UB += "ROAD TRIP!!! Well it was our first road trip of the year and we found ourselves in North Bay. With the weather conditions being what they have this year, we all headed up on the Friday. The team had an enjoyable dinner at Don Cherry’s on the Friday night. It was great for the team!
"; article14UChallCup_14UB += "With the temperature being – 26 on Saturday morning our girls headed off to the gym to start their day. The first team we came across was Peterborough Thunder. It took the girls a couple of minutes to warm up but with Rachel serving for 9 points in a row we were back in the game. With Mackenzie making some awesome digs and some beautiful sets by Kelsey to set Brittany up for some great hits we won the set 25-23. The second game was also a close game but with Liz serving for 7 points and Maddie and Jamila taking their turns at the net with some great tips we won the set 25-20. What a great way to start the day!

Kelsey & Mackenzie were all over the floor digging up those hits from the Attack team. Brittany was serving up a storm but it was just a little too late. The girls lost 14-25. The second game was much closer with Kate making some beautiful tips, Liz serving, Rachel hitting and Maddie once again blocking those hard hits. The set went to a final score of 25-27. The girls fought hard both sets but just couldn’t seem to get the points to go their way! Great teamwork!

We took the first set 27-25 but lost the second set 21-25. Onto a third game! With some excellent teamwork and nice plays our girls controlled the ball and won the set 15-7.

(the Blizzards ended up winning the whole tournament that day) It had been a long day and girls needed to refuel.

Well what a weekend! The girls played some of their best ball all year. They came across some tough teams but after all was said and done our girls came home with a Bronze medal in Tier 2. Way to go girls!!!
"; article14UOntChamp_14UB += "Each and every girl played hard and they all contributed to each and every play. We had great consistent serving through the games which was great. Jamila even served for 9 straight points during one of our matches. Alycia was sending her bullet across the net consistently. Way to go Alycia! Haley had these serves that just seemed to drop at the net. They shocked everyone, especially the other team as they had a hard time receiving her balls. Nice Haley!

Our powers were working hard all weekend. They were certainly kept busy with some awesome rallies that went back and forth. Liz was hitting them over, Brittany was spiking hard, Rachel was picking the spots & Victoria placed some deep sets. Nice work girls!
Our setters were amazing! Unfortunately Mackenzie got injured on day 1 of the weekend. She gave us all a scare as she went to the hospital but luckily it turned out to be nothing too major, but she would not be able to play for the rest of weekend. That was bad news for the team as Mackenzie was doing a great job digging up those balls. With Mackenzie unable to play, we were down to just 2 setters for the rest of the weekend, Kelsey & Kate. The girls played awesome! They were moving everywhere on the court, setting some beautiful balls for our powers and middles. They never stopped and kept hustling. Amazing!

"; article15UProvCup_15U += "Our first tournament of the season took us to Welland. In the morning we played at Eastdale S.S., a great facility.
"; article15UProvCup_15U += "In our first match we played against Niagara Rapids Blue and had almost a flawless game. Amazing considering it was actually the first organized match the girls had played. Both sets were good with scores of 25-10 & 25-14.
"; article15UProvCup_15U += "Our next opponent was the Durham Attack Black U14 team. These two games went quickly for us with the scores 25-8 & 25-8.
"; article15UProvCup_15U += "We then came up against the Titans Nemesis. Our girls played well, however these girls have a size advantage, something we will have to learn to play smarter against if we want to beat them next time. Titans took both sets 18-25 & 17-25.

"; article16UMcGreg_15U += "The thermometer in the car read –25C at 6:30 am when we left for the scenic drive to Trenton, and when we arrived the gyms were cold but someone forgot to tell our girls. They were on FIRE!!! These young ladies were hitting, serving, setting and receiving; from a parent’s view, a real delight to watch. Our pool had three U16 teams and we finished first in our pool.

Would they sit back and relax? Nope. They wanted to win and they did. Into the gold medal round against our own club U15 Blue. Now the pressure was on.

We got behind at the get go, but with a time out and refocusing from Martin & Janice, the girls buried the nerves and played solid ball. Strong serving got us out of the hole and along with some amazing digs we rallied to win by 6 points. The next game started out the same but our girls found their footing and they rallied from behind again to secure their Gold Medal.

"; article15UMcGreg_15U += "Coming off a fun, almost pressure free tournament from the week before, the girls knew that at this tournament they would face more of a challenge. Positioned in the Premier Division, their goal would be to battle hard and to finish in the top eight.
"; article15UMcGreg_15U += "Their first game was with Storm Monsoon. They won both games, 25-12 & 25-18. A strong start and confidence builder.
"; article15UMcGreg_15U += "Next they faced Georgetown Impact. Again the girls battled hard but came up short both games, 19-25 & 23-25.
"; article15UMcGreg_15U += "DRVC placed second in their pool. Now, with very little break time, it’s into the all-important crossover match against Forest City Blue U15. This team kept us scrambling, but with lots of loud cheering from the crowd, our girls came out on top after their first tiebreaker of the day 11-25, 25-17 & 15-11.

Thanks to all the cheering parents, the parents who provided the great snacks, Coach Janice and last but not least our dedicated and entertaining linesman Gord. "; article16UHumber += "The 16U team competed at the 2008 Humber Pre-Season Classic on Sunday October 26, 2008. With the addition of 3 new players, the tournament was greatly anticipated by the players, coaches and parents to see how well the team has gelled and would perform. They did not disappoint!
"; article16UHumber += "The team dominated pool play and finished in first with wins over Aurora Storm2 16U (25-9, 25-5), Scarborough Titans (25-9, 25-16) and Aurora Storm 15U (25-14, 25-05). In the first round of playoffs, they continued their domination over Toronto West with a 25-13, 25-9 win.
" article16UHumber += "In the finals, they met yet another Aurora Storm team (16U -1), the strongest of the day. The first set was close for a while, but then the girls broke it open and won 25-17. The second set was a repeat of the first, but with strong play and teamwork (and a new good luck cheer), the girls won the set 25-16 and the gold medal!

The girls stormed back taking the next two sets 25-20 and 15-9 to finish first in their pool.

Fourth Place Finish for 16U at The 17U Provincial Cup

"; article17UProvCup_16U += "On Saturday Dec. 13th the 16U team made the drive to snowy Kingston for the 17U Provincial Cup. The girls were excited, as this was the first tournament this season that we weren’t missing a player.

The girls easily won the first game 25-7, but struggled a bit in the second game eventually winning 25-21. Against the Ganaraska Wolves, the girls dominated the match winning 25-16, 25-05. In their third match, for first place in the pool, the girls played against the very strong (and tall) Maverick Black Jacks. Our team was not to be intimidated by this hard hitting team and played with a lot of intensity and determination eventually losing both games 17-25 finishing second in the pool.

The 16U team made the trip to Barrie on Sat. Jan. 10th to compete in the 16U McGregor Cup.
"; article16UMcGreg_16U += "During pool play, the girls finished first in their pool beating the Hurricanes 16U Black team (25-14, 26-24) and the Scarborough Falcons (26-18, 25-16).
"; article16UMcGreg_16U += "In the Quarter Finals, they faced Impact 16U easily winning the first game 25-17. In the second game, Impact played much tougher, but the girls dug deep and pulled out a 25-23 win.
"; article16UMcGreg_16U += "The Semi-Finals saw the girls playing their Durham rivals, Durham Attack 16U Black. The game was extremely exciting with hard hitting, great digging, and amazing blocks by both teams. In the end, the girls lost the match in two very close scoring games (23-25, 22-25).
"; article16UMcGreg_16U += "In the Bronze Medal match, they faced the Scarborough Falcons again. The Falcons were determined to get revenge from their loss to the girls earlier in the day, winning the first set 23-25. Our girls stormed back easily winning the second set 25-14. In the tie-breaker, the girls took an 8-4 lead at the cross-over and only allowed the Falcons to score 5 more points, winning the game/match 15-9.

In a tightly contested match, the girls lost both sets 20-25 and 23-25. Their second match against the Predators were also very tight scoring games, however, the girls pulled out the win (25-23, 25-22). After waiting to determine who would place where in the pool (there was a 3 way tie), the girls finished in second place.

However, they won their match against Northern Chill 25-16 and 25-23. In the second game against BVC Strikers, they girls came out firing and quickly defeated them 25-10, 25-11. In the last pool play game against the Etobicoke Wildcats, the girls dominated the court winning 25-12, 25-18 to place first in the pool.

"; article16UBugarski_16U += "For the second weekend in a row, the 16U team made the trip down the QEW Niagara, this time to compete in the 16U Bugarski Cup Premier division at Brock University. After their gold medal win the weekend before in 17U, the girls looked very confident as they walked out onto to the court to begin warm-up.
"; article16UBugarski_16U += "In their first match against Maverick Ambush, the girls easily won the first set 25-16. In the second set, the Ambush team were determined to try and tie the match up. The girls eventually downed the Ambush 25-23. In their second match against Forest City 16U Green, the girls won both sets 25-16 and 25-20 to place first in their pool.
"; article16UBugarski_16U += "In the Quarter-final match against the Stratford Stingers, the girls played very well and were very effective in shutting down the Stingers number one hitter with great blocking and digging. As a result, they won in 2 sets 25-21 and 25-16.

In the first set, Defensa went out to an early lead, but the girls fought back hard and tied the game. They continued to put the pressure on Defensa and won the set 25-15. In the second set, Defensa came out strong and the girls never really got anything going losing 7-25. In the 3rd set, Defensa took an early lead again, but the girls fought back to get within 1 point. However, Defensa proved to be a little too strong and we lost 11-15.

DRVC 16U places 5th in Tier 1 at the 17U Ontario Championships!

The 16U team made the trip to RIM Park the weekend of April 17th – 19th to compete in the 17U Provincials. After a strong finish in their last tournament, the team was seeded 9th overall and wearing their new inspirational BAM warm-up shirts, they were eager to hit the courts.
"; article17UOntChamp_16U += "Day 1 of Pool play, the BAMazons (the new nickname given to the team by coach Gerald Brundt) played the Cambridge Hawks first. The girls came out swinging and easily defeated them 25-16 and 25-17. In their second match of the day, they easily defeated Interclub 25-18 and 25-10. Their third match of the day was against the top seeded team in their pool, Storm Vortex. The girls started out slowly dropping the first game 20-25. However, the BAMazons were not going to be defeated that easily and won the next two games 25-20 and 15-11 to finish first in their pool.
"; article17UOntChamp_16U += "Day 2 of Tier 1 Power Pool play, the team had an early 8:00 a.m. start against the Wildcats winning in two sets (25-21, 25-18). Their next match was against the Ballhawks, defeating them in two sets 25-17 and 25-21. Their last match was against the Rapids Black who also finished first in their pool on Day 1. The team lost the first set 17-25 then won the second set 25-19. In the tie-breaking 3rd set, the BAMazons took control of the match, easily winning 15-7 to finish first in their power pool with a record of 6-0 after two days of play.
"; article17UOntChamp_16U += "Day 3 of Tier 1 Playoffs, the team faced Titans DYB in the round of 16s. The girls came out strong and easily won the first set 25-16. In the second set, they made a number of uncharacteristic mistakes and lost 22-25. In the third set, the team dominated the Titans DYB with powerful hitting and blocking and easily won 15-5 showing why they are nicknamed the BAMazons.
"; article17UOntChamp_16U += "The team only had a couple of minutes of rest and snack break and then they were rushed back on to the court by the referees to start the Quarter-finals. After a day of upsets in Power Pool play on day 2, the team faced the number 1 seeded 17U Durham Attack Black. The girls struggled in the first set and couldn’t get anything going against Attack, who wanted revenge for their defeat to us in the last tournament of the season, losing 16-25. In the second set, the girls played extremely well and were tied with Attack Black at 22 points when the referee made a very questionable net call against us (the proof is on the video tape). The momentum swung back to Durham Attack who went on to win the second set 25-22.

The 16U Provincial Championships were held at RIM Park the weekend of April 24th – 26th, and once again the 16U team made the trip to Waterloo. Having finished in 5th place at the 17U Provincials, the girls were confident going into the tournament.

"; article16UOntChamp_16U += "Day 1 of Pool play, the BAMazons dominated their competition and defeated the Storm Cyclone (25-14, 25-15), South County Bandits (25-14, 25-16), and the Peel Selects (25-10, 25-14) finishing first in their pool.

"; article16UOntChamp_16U += "Day 2 of Tier 1 Power Pool play, the team started out slowly in their match against the Maverick Outlaws losing the first set 17-25. The girls picked up steam in the second set winning 25-18 and steam-rolled over the Outlaws in the third set winning 15-6. In their next match they played the Riverside Rage winning 25-14 and 25-18. Next was the Titans DYB who they defeated 25-14 and 25-21 to place first in the power pool and for the second weekend in a row, head into playoffs with a 6-0 record.

The BAMazons played brilliantly in the first set, schooling the younger team and easily defeated them 25-7. The second set started out a little closer, but the strength of the girls proved too much for the Ambush, and the girls went on to win 25-16.

The girls went out to an early lead over Attack Black, however, Attack Black fought back and won the first set 25-23. The second set was much the same as the first with both teams battling hard for every point. Unfortunately, Attack Black came out on top with another narrow 25-23 victory.

The 17u DRVC girls volleyball team was ranked 7 out of 8 teams heading into the 18u tournament. The girls finished 1st in pool play with scores of 25-17,25-14 against Ottawa Kangaroos 18U, 25-14,25-17 against Outtahand Diamonds and 25-13,25-16 against NCVC 16U.

After this, the girls were off to meet a strong Aurora Storm in the finals. Our girls knew they had to step it up and they did, surprising Aurora with their play.

"; article18UProvCup_18U += "The day proved to be one for adapting to change. It began with an injury taking out a key player during warm up for the first game against Northern Chill. Our girls were able to scrape out a victory in 3 matches. We were fortunate that all girls were able to play after that first game. The remainder of pool play was strong and consistent with our girls winning all matches, placing them first in their pool.

"; article18UBugarski_18U += "18U woke up with a spring in their step, having the latest start in recent history for this competition being 11:00 am, conveniently located in nearby Bowmanville. What was initially a concern in arriving later than everyone else and not warmed up from having played already, turned into an asset. Our girls were well rested and eager to step up to the plate. Another hurdle for the girls was the absence of our regular setter Lauren, due to injury.
"; article18UBugarski_18U += "Pool play began facing the Barrie Elites. DRVC used this match to get a feel for the day and warm up for what was to come. DRVC won in two sets, taking both 25-14.
"; article18UBugarski_18U += "No sooner did they finish, then it was off to another court to play the second and final pool play game against Ms. Pakmen., whom they had lost to in the previous tournament. This proved to be the game of the day. It was an exciting roller coaster ride filled with some awesome volleyball. Our girls talent, perseverance and hard work prevailed, winning with scores of 26-24, 14-25 & 15-9.

The girls of 18U were once again lucky to begin the day in the second round, this time in Brampton.
"; article18UOpen_18U += "Struggles, stress, tension and anxiety seemed to be the theme of the day. At least it was for the parents. Once again we were also dealing with the loss of another vital team member due to injury, our key right-side Rebecca.
"; article18UOpen_18U += "Pool play proved quite something to watch with some interesting and questionable calls. First match in pool play was against Impact. It took three games for Impact to lose to DRVC with scores of 25 - 17, 15 - 25 & 15 - 12. The final match in pool play brought the girls to the now familiar Predators, losing 12 - 25 & 11 - 25, giving DRVC second place in the pool.
"; article18UOpen_18U += "Crossovers brought the girls to Peel Selects earning DRVC another victory in 3 games. 25 - 21, 21 - 25 & 15 - 12. Then on to the also familiar Ms. Pakmen with another very hard fought match, but this time DRVC came out on the wrong end with Ms. Pakmen winning 20 - 25 & 25 - 27.

Both teams were feeling a bit tired from a day full of ball but sucked it up to give one last fight. Anxiety ridden to the end, DRVC was winning in the final tie-breaker match with a score of 12 - 3, only having to fend off a strong comeback by Forest City, but ultimately coming out on the winning side of 15 - 13. DRVC won 23 - 25, 25 - 22 & 15 - 13.

"; article18UOntChamp_18U += "Game 1 : Began with meeting Etobicoke Titans 17U first thing in the morning.
After a tense struggle in the second game and almost allowing it to slip away, our girls fought back showing the grit and tenacity we know them to have. DRVC prevailed winning 25 - 15 & 28 - 26.
Game 2 : Brought them to Toronto 2 Strong. This match served to show us that the girls were still adjusting to some recent changes and adjustments out on the court. After a little confusion and some bad calls DRVC was finally to come out on top after 3 sets. 25 - 20, 22 - 25 & 15 - 11.
Game 3 : Against Barrie Elites. Unfortunately our girls were now showing a lack of energy and fire and they were unable to come out on top with this match. 19 - 25 & 23 & 25.
Power Pool Play, Day 2
"; article18UOntChamp_18U += "Game 1 : Versus Durham Attack. The first game had our girls caught off guard and somewhat intimidated. But in the second game they were able to put a little fire into it, but unfortunately it was nowhere near enough to make a go of it. DRVC lost. 6 - 25 & 12 - 25.
Game 2 : Meeting Peel Selects. The first game of the match brought comments such as "Did the girls drink some Red Bull between games??". They did not look like the same team we had been watching earlier. Unfortunately the "red bull" seemed to be wearing off and the girls were just not able to keep up the energy. DRVC lost. 25 - 14, 19 - 25 & 10 - 15.
Game 3 : Versus Forest City Green 17U. Feeling the effects of the earlier effort our girls were unable to finish this team off either. DRVC lost 25 - 13, 23 - 25 & 9 -15.
Day 3, Playoffs

18U Takes Home Gold from the Tier 2 Nationals!

The 18U girls began their adventure at the 2009 18U National tournament on a beautiful May 1st in our nations capital. Thankfully everyone was able to arrive in time, notwithstanding a couple of little possible hitches in the plan.

"; article18UNationals_18U += "The first day of the competition's preliminaries took the girls to Algonquin College.
Match 1 vs. Invasion from Innisfail, Alberta with DRVC winning 25 - 17 & 25 - 9.
Match 2 vs. Forest City Blue, from London, ON with DRVC winning 25 - 18 & 25 - 14.
Match 3 vs. Blazers from Winnipeg, Manitoba with DRVC winning in 3, 25 - 23, 24 - 26 & 15 - 4. The Blazers gave the first real fight, unfortunately late in the evening with the girls feeling the effects of a long day. They kept with it and gave us quite a good ride.
DRVC placed 1st in their pool after day one.
Power Pool Play, Day 2

Match 1 vs. Élite de Beauce, from Ste-Marie Beauce, Quebec with DRVC winning 25 -23 & 25 - 18.
Match 2 vs. FOG Killer Instinct from Edmonton, Alberta with DRVC winning in 3, 24 - 26, 25 - 17 & 15 - 9.
Match 3 vs. Club West Rage, from Virden, Manitoba with DRVC winning 25 - 19 & 27 - 25.
DRVC placed 1st in their power pool. This was another long day for the girls, in loud and echoing arenas, providing us all with many tense moments. Most unfortunate though was an injury to our key right-side, Rebecca.
Day 3, Playoffs
"; article18UNationals_18U += "The final day of competition and playoffs, brought us to the beautiful Aberdeen Pavilion for the first game of the day, where they met the Whiskey Jacks from Dryden, Ontario. DRVC won 25 - 13 & 25 - 16.
It was then back to Carleton University for the semis vs. the South County Bandits from Essex County, Ontario. DRVC wins in 3, 25 - 20, 23 - 25 & 15 - 8.
The final match of the day for Division 2 Gold is against home town Ottawa Maverick Stampede. Our girls came to play and were not going to go home with anything short of gold. They played the way we knew all along that they could, and made us all extremely proud. DRVC wins 25 - 21 & 25 -14. Gold Medals and a pennant!
The event provided us all with many fond memories. From hand sanitizer (Thank you Karen!!). The many needed snacks to fuel the long afternoons and evenings for both the girls and families. Two successful prom dress hunts. Some exploring of Parliament Hill. Thanks to Bob holding over twenty seats at Eggspectations for a quite a while..... Late night laundry. Scary underground parking. Interesting talking elevators. Byward Market. Breakfast waffles. Driving instructions that were not always accurate. Stalker boy. Ciara's fat lip. Watching DRVC 17U. Chocolate icing in the face, thanks to Richard. Sore shoulders and knees. Tarts and muffins. Sparkly wrist bands. Very loud whistles. Echoing hockey arenas. More t-shirts.... Van troubles in Perth. Sweaty. Very Sweaty. Rideau Centre. Lots of Starbucks and Second Cups. Playing in a Barn. And so on, and so on.......
