What a fantastic weekend for the DRVC 15U Girls!

It all started on Sat Jan 14 in Richmond Hill at the 16U Challenge Cup. The girls were off to a quick start against EVC taking both sets easily with great passing and an amazing block winning 25-8 and 25-14. Next match was against the Clarington Grizzles which they won both sets 25-19 and 25-11. The Rebels finished 1st in their pool and after an extended break, the next match was against the Kawartha Krushers. The Rebels were energized and with a beautiful tip took the set 25-7. They started the 2nd set with a streak of very strong serving which quickly pulled the Rebels ahead winning 25-12. Off to the semi finals to meet Durham Attack Red. This was a very intense point for point start with Attack overcoming DRVC winning both sets 26-24 and 25-19. This loss left the Rebels playing for Bronze. The Rebels pulled together to finish the day. The Rebels took an early lead against a very tall E381 team. With great team work and perseverance the girls rally together to win 25-23 and 25-17 winning Bronze. Coach Koot was very pleased with the days results.

No time for rest as it was a double header weekend with the Rebels on the road and headed to Kingston on Sunday for the 15U Challenge Cup. The first game of the day was against Peterborough Thunder Red which was very close point-for-point set. The girls won this intense set 25-23 and then took the 2nd set 25-17. In the next game they faced the Ottawa Maverick Stampede. The opponent was ready for the Rebels and won the first set 25-11. After this loss, Coach Koot had some very encouraging words for the girls. They won the 2nd set 25-19 as they capitalized in gaining points after a long run of great serves. This brought them to a tie breaker but the mighty Mavericks won 15-8. This left the Rebels 2nd in their pool after pool play. Next came the Cornwall Vikings Bellatrix. The Rebels easily won the match 25-11 with a little tougher 2nd set still winning 25-23. Off to the semis to meet another Ottawa team the Maverick Trailblazers. The Rebels had their work cut out for them as the Trailblazers lead for most of the set but were eventually able to gain control winning 25-20 and 25-19. After a brief break and refueling the Rebels were off to the finals against Durham Attack Red. The girls were pumped and started strong. The game was full of strong swings and beautiful blocks. The girls had DA on the run picking corners on the court and great ball placement down the lines. The Rebels were on fire winning 25-15 and 25-17 to bring home Gold!

What an amazing weekend as Coach Koot’s goal was for the girls to place in this double header weekend which they definitely did – a Bronze and a Gold. These girls definitely bleed orangeWay to go Rebels!
